Timm Gudehus

Dr. Timm Gudehus grew up in Germany where he acquired an extensive equestrian background, from warmblood breeding to show jumping. His lifelong interest in horses led him to pursue a career in veterinary medicine, earning his Dr. med. vet. (DVM equivalent) degree from Ludwig-Maximilian-Universität in Munich in 2006. Dr. Gudehus completed his first internship at the racetrack in Munich, while simultaneously conducting his research in translational procedures for human maxillofacial surgery. This experience laid the foundation for his interest in osteointegrative research paired with biomechanics.

In preparation for his residency training, Dr. Gudehus moved to California for an internship at California Equine Orthopedics, a facility specializing in orthopedic imaging and surgery with a heavy emphasis on musculoskeletal ultrasound, scintigraphy and MRI. This passion continued throughout his residency at Louisiana State University from 2007 to 2010. During the following two years practicing as an equine surgeon in New Zealand, Dr. Gudehus became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (Large Animal) in 2011. He subsequently was awarded board certification with the European College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2014.

Dr. Gudehus’ previous hobby of training working dogs eventually resurfaced and replaced active equestrian activities. He became involved with high-end performance dogs of multiple disciplines, from breeding to training and trialing versatile hunting dogs at national and international levels. Dr. Gudehus is the current president of the North American Deutsch Kurzhaar Club (NADKC). He is also a consultant for Arthrex Vet Systems in surgical implant development, and stays active in research, leading to near-annual contributions to either ACVS, ECVS or VOS meetings.

After returning to the United States with his wife in 2016, Dr. Gudehus played an integral role in building Purdue’s equine satellite hospital near the Indiana Grand Racetrack, now known as Indiana Horseshoe by Caesars. In 2023, Dr. Gudehus began his formal training in small animal surgery through the ACVS dual certification program. He worked with Dr. Spivack during this time and together they envisioned the possibility of providing unique surgical care for high performance canines as well as beloved family pets. Dr. Gudehus’ strong background in arthroscopy, orthopedic imaging (ultrasound, nuclear medicine, CT and MRI) and regenerative medicine bring a useful skill set to small animal surgery that fills a specialized niche in the Indianapolis area. Dr. Gudehus is excited to maintain the collaboration with Dr. Spivack and to merge his personal passion for working canines whilst providing high-end diagnostic capabilities paired with rehabilitative and surgical choices for owners and their pets.
